Fall 2026 JayGen Jayhawk Day

November 8-13, 2026, is National First-Generation Week, which celebrates and supports students who are the first in their families to attend college.

Join us on November 18, 2026 in visiting The University of Kansas!

The week promotes awareness of first-generation students' unique challenges and encourages higher education institutions to support and engage the community. It culminates with a national celebration of being first-generation.

In honor of National First-Generation Week, the University of Kansas will hold its second annual JayGen Jayhawk Day, designed for prospective first-generation high school students and their families.

What does it mean to be a first-generation student at KU? We define first-generation as those for whom neither parent nor legal guardian has earned a bachelor's degree. At the University of Kansas, nearly 3,500 undergraduate Jayhawks identify as first-generation.

Visit KU’s campus to understand what being a first-generation college student is like. This event will allow guests and students to learn more about resources available for first-generation students and provide students with an opportunity to learn more about the college experience.
