Required for issuance of I-20 for F-1 status or DS-2019 for J1 status.
Credible documentation of financial support may be submitted at the time of application. Sufficient proof of finances must be provided and reviewed before an I-20 or DS-2019 can be prepared by the International Support Services (ISS) office at KU. You may upload the document now or provide it to ISS later.
F-1 visa: The I-20 is the document needed to apply for an F-1 student visa. When applying for the F-1 visa, the applicant must prove that enough funds are available to cover the first year of expenses and should be prepared to prove that funds will be available for the duration of studies.
J-1 visa: The DS-2019 is needed for a J-1 Exchange Visitor (student) visa. Applicants for J-1 visas must be prepared to show that funding is available for the entire J-1 program.
Review current tuition and cost estimates. Information regarding acceptable proof of finances for your KU immigration document can be found on the Submitting Proof of Finances webpage. Any questions regarding proof of finances can be emailed to the ISS Document Specialists at issdocs@ku.edu. If your financial documentation is for an account held by someone other than yourself, the student, the account holder will need to sign (in ink) an affidavit document.
